Sometimes my dad would talk about his time over in Vietnam and it wasn't always an angry or sad talk, he did have some good times there it seems, but he didn't talk about the bad.
I'm still so sad for him that he felt the way he did. I just know he was sad and angry a lot too.you could see it in every inch of his body and soul. Don't get me wrong my dad wasn't always angry or sad through out my life, I remember a lot of of his happy times.
Was he a happy person, was he a good kid, did he get in trouble a lot at school or maybe only once or twice? I wonder because I see his high school graduation picture and he looks NOTHING like the man I knew! Even the picture he took when he was in the Army, he looks so different. I always wonder what he was like before I came into the picture, before he enlisted in the Army. I smile when I think about him! He wasn't somebody who always had a smile on his face though. I never thought this would be my life, living without my son. I would of never seen that coming in all our conversations and his behavior. I don’t know what happened but one day everything came to a perfect storm, and he took his own life. But eventually he started to make friends and the became less. But, when he got there, he called everyday, just to assure me. He served for 18 months, got married and moved to South Carolina. Sometimes I think he loved his animals more then people. He was so smart, funny, loving, loved animals. Justin was always an over achiever without even trying. He just knew, he was going to serve his Country and be an Airman. When he graduated High School, he went to College and just didn’t feel that he was suppose to go. He would tell his sisters not to talk to Mom like that.It always warmed my heart, how protective he was of me. As he got older, he was like the man of the house. He knew, if I came home from work to a clean house, that would make me happy. He could just tell that I needed it or do something sweet like clean the house. That was the end of my beloved son and best friend. So, he joined the Army and went on for 3 more years. When he couldn't re-up, he tried civilian life, which he told me he couldn't do because all he knew was the military life. He joined the Navy from the DEP program, right from high school. As he grew, he became the rock of the family. I don't know why, but it just happened that way. At an early age, he took on the role of our protector. I had a home birth which was the most wonderful experience! As a baby, he never fussed such an easy baby to have!
